Writing for Money:
6 Weeks to Your First Freelance Client
This is the course you’ve been waiting for.
Writing for Money is designed for moms who are looking for a hands-on course on how to be a freelance writer with step-by-step instructions, personal guidance and feedback, and lots of support.
In this course, you’ll decide when to work and when to be with your family. You’ll figure out who your dream clients are, and you’ll learn how to pitch to those people and get the work you want. You’ll determine how much your time is worth, and you’ll learn how to find the clients who are delighted to pay you that rate. You’re going to be in control of your own income.
You don’t have to choose: You can have a career you love AND be present for your family. In this course, you’ll learn how to build yourself a real career as a freelance writer while you’re at home with kids.
This course is built from the ground up to work with the craziness that is your life. The unpredictable schedule, the kids who never give you a day off, and the insane amount of stuff you have to get done. I’m right there in the trenches with you — I have FIVE kids, and one of them has special needs, so I get it.
I know that finding reliable childcare can sometimes be challenging. I get that you also need to get dinner on the table. I know you’re trying to figure out how the heck you can make phone calls when your kids are screaming — literally, screaming — for attention. This course is designed for moms with actual kids who make messes and throw tantrums. Yep, YOU. We’re in this together.
Write Your Own Freelance Success Story
I know that you really want to make this work, but you’re terrified that you don’t have the time, or you’re not smart enough, or you don’t know what to do.
You don’t need any professional experience. When I was hired for my first writing job, I knew how to speak English and use a computer. That was the sum total of what qualified me, and I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I still get plenty scared sometimes. We’ll work through it and get you past the fear.
Listen to me very carefully: YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH. Have you ever read a book or an article or something that came in the mail and thought to yourself, WHO THE HECK WROTE THIS? You can do better than that guy WHILE CHANGING A DIAPER.
You will learn how to find all the time you need to do the work make it fit YOUR life.
Part of the beauty of freelancing is that you can scale your schedule up and down to meet your needs. One year, I stopped working completely for two months because my then-5-year-old went through this awesome phase where she spent every moment in my lap. I know what you’re up against, and I will hold your hand EVERY step of the way.
You’re not just getting a PDF that you download and “work through on your own time.” We all know what happens to those files. That stuff never gets done. This is a course, with daily email check-ins, weekly live sessions (with recordings you can access later — just in case!), worksheets and homework assignments you need to complete (no busywork — everything assigned is designed to get you closer to landing that first client), and lots of support.
I’m not kidding about support. You’ll have access to me to ask any questions you have along the way — and the support of the whole class in our private Facebook group. If you really do want to be a freelance writer, if you really do want to get paid to write AND be at home, then Writing for Money is for YOU.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does the course start?
Writing for Money kicks off on Monday, May 22 and runs for six weeks — through Friday, June 30. But you’ll have access to the course materials immediately, and you’ll be able to acess everything FOREVER. Yep, LIFETIME ACCESS, baby.
How much time should I expect to spend on the material each day?
During the six weeks of the course, you should expect to put in about an hour a day — if you’re serious about landing a client in six weeks. You’ll get the most benefit from the course if you follow along and complete the assignments at the scheduled time. It’s okay to skip one day and make it up the next, but you shouldn’t plan on skipping a week and winging it. You’ll learn exactly how to make the time you need to get the work done.
What if I’m not sure I can get the work done in time?
I strongly recommend that you make every effort to complete the course during the six weeks it runs, but I also know that life happens. That’s why you’ll have lifetime access to all the course materials. Yep, lifetime access. So even if you can’t get everything done in six weeks, you can come back to it later on.
What if the material is too hard?
You can ask as many questions as you need to in our private Facebook group. You can email me. Nothing in this course is too hard for you to do — that’s fear talking. Share your fears in the group, and together, we’ll conquer them.
What’s your refund policy?
Enroll in the course and complete the first two weeks. If you don’t feel like you got the value you were promised, email me and let me know. I’ll set up a call to speak with you and ask you to answer a few questions so that I can better meet the needs of other students in the future, and then I’ll refund your money. I may cry myself to sleep for a night or two, but there won’t be any hard feelings. The fine print: you have 14 days from the first day of access to course materials, and deciding that you don’t want to do the work isn’t a reason for a refund.
Who should enroll in this course?
You should — if you want to make money from your writing and you understand that in order to do so, you’ll have to actually do the work. This course is designed for moms and addresses the unique challenges we face when balancing family and work. I don’t ask you to do anything that I haven’t done myself, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.
I have a different question that you didn’t answer!
No problem! Just email me and ask. I answer my email personally — and usually pretty quickly.
